Comments on the Sprint
We have received some very encouraging comments regarding Sunday.....
Just wanted to say thanks for a great event on Sunday I am glad the 5 of us were able to make it across and having 41 in the race made it a very competitive race for everyone. As normal a very well run, slick race. It will be great to have the Inter-county in Wick next year.

Many thanks
Mark( Harrison)
Both Kirsten and I enjoyed the Wick experience and will certainly be keen to return.
I will look forward to spreading the word on future Caithness events and mentioning how triathlons should be run with both a competitive and fun element.
Kind Regards
Peter (Ness)
Really enjoyed myself at the Sprint triathlon yesterday and hope to return again.
Goodness knows how the bike course seemed to be uphill both ways but still enjoyable nonetheless.
Cheers Steve (Chalmers)

Sprint 09.......Printout
Trying out this wee programme called embedit. This is the excel spreadsheet from the sprint....the first two pages are all you need to look at for results. Sorry it's a bit small but I'm just trying it out at the moment.....I'm noticing that there are zoom functions and a "full screen" option so maybe that will help those of you, like me, who struggle with the small print.
Feedback on it would be good so that I know if it works okay.

Lorn has chosen our sprint as her first triathlon and is doing it for leukaemia care you can donate to this worthy cause at www.justgiving.com/lornpearson/.
Lorn has already raised over a £1000 and has a target of £1500.
Further Good News
Found out yesterday that David Sutherland has, once more, qualified to represent Team GB at the ITU Triathlon Sprint World Championships on the Gold Coast in Australia.
This information had to be squeezed out of him....not one to blow his own trumpet, David.
I also notice that Peter Ness, who is registered to do the Wick Sprint on Sunday, has qualified also. Peter is the Vice President of Triathlon Scotland so it'll be nice to have someone from the executive visiting us and sampling our Caithness hospitality.
WELL DONE BRIAN

Hawick Triathlon
Wick Triathlon Club's Team GB age-grouper David Sutherland was on his travels again this weekend. David is trying to qualify for the National Team again this year for the "Worlds" on the Gold Coast in Australia....to this end he needs to travel far and wide picking qualifying races in which to compete.
Today, in Hawick, he finished 2nd in his category ( MSV) and 19th overall. He told me via text that he was overhauled, by his nearset rival , on the run section. That's a bit of a pity but David has been carrying a wee injury so completing the race in one piece may have been higher in his mind.
I think he'll be heading for Oz.

Ironman Pete 2
Peter Fenwick the winner of our May mini completed his first Ironman in Nice France in 10 hours 59 minutes and 49 seconds, which is I'm sure you'll agree is an amazing achievement for a man in full time employment.
I will try and get him to write a wee ditty on this site on his return.
Well done Peter from Wick Triathlon Club if you get much better we might even let you join.
Our First Standard Open Water Triathlon
Our previous worries about water temp was all for nothing as the 14 degrees was positively bath like compared to our training swims.
17 individuals and 6 teams took to the water watched by spectators all round the harbour creating a fabulous atmosphere.
First out of the water was Gemma Scott in an impressive time of 0.14.21, the swim fell quite a bit short of the 1500m but an impressive swim non the less.
The bike leg started with a rather cruel slog up long shore road then straight out to old hall and back. There was a stiff breeze on the way back which didn't help the running legs any.
Fastest bike leg went to Angus Peden 1.04.26.
This didn't seem to bother Angus though as he a
lso recorded the fastest run time 0.40.42 which was even quicker than the team runners.
First senior male : Angus Peden 2.05.00
First senior Female : Gemma Scott 2.25.56
First Veteran male : Terry Gallacher 2.16.02
First Veteran Female : Yvonne Pollard 3.05.44
First Team : Scott Mackenzie 2.12.02
Thanks to all marshals, Kate and all the wick tri club members who got up early to set up the scaffold and Marquee and to Plum and Brian for putting out bike race signs.
This turned out to be an enjoyable and succesful day that I for one am looking forward to repeating.
A special mention has to go to our oldest competeter 67 year old Jane Askey who not only completed the event in 3.29.32 but also stayed for curry and beer, helped dismantle the marquee before cycling off in the sunset to pitch her tent for the night.
Ironman Pete
Thurso's Pete Fenwick is competing in Nice Ironman track his progress by clicking on link and typing his surname in search box. At time of writing this he was through 105 km checkpoint on bike in 4.36 with a 1.01 swim time.
Update 5.40.09 for bike split bib no.509.
Good Luck Pete

Swimmer's Nipple
The curse of the open water......you peel off the wet suit to find that your nipples have been switched off and the blood has been transferred to some other part of your anatomy which is more in need of the supply.
Here, as you can clearly see, Robert is suffering.
Will "Body Glide" do the trick and prevent further discolouration....tune in on Wednesday....

A quick well done to Thurso's Pete Fenwick for winning Aberdeenshires's Inverurie sprint triathlon on Sunday. He bet a formidable field( including a professional triathlete) to win the course in 1hr 21.52.

Edinburgh Marathon
Arrived in Falkirk Travelodge switched on telly yo have the nice weather lady promise 18 degrees and and a cool sea breeze.
She lied it was hotter than that when we woke up at 0600.
We had a plan to run the first half in 1.45 - 1.50 giving us a bit of leeway for second half, all looked like it was going to plan when we went through 13 miles in around 1. 50.
At 15 miles the temperature rose and the average speed fell, at 19 miles we really started to struggle but hung on to finish in 4. 21 but at least we ran the whole way, and in temperatures that reached in excess of 20 degrees we were happy with our lot.
Helen smashed her last years time by 40 minuets so well done to her.
Roll on Brora 10k 20 miles less :)
