Our First Standard Open Water Triathlon

What an event I don't think it could of gone much better largely down to our illustrious leader Kate(Mrs Farmer) and the glorious weather.
Our previous worries about water temp was all for nothing as the 14 degrees was positively bath like compared to our training swims.

17 individuals and 6 teams took to the water watched by spectators all round the harbour creating a fabulous atmosphere.
First out of the water was Gemma Scott in an impressive time of 0.14.21, the swim fell quite a bit short of the 1500m but an impressive swim non the less.

The bike leg started with a rather cruel slog up long shore road then straight out to old hall and back. There was a stiff breeze on the way back which didn't help the running legs any.
Fastest bike leg went to Angus Peden 1.04.26.

Then on to what turned out to be a tough run the steps going up the hill shortly after run start were murder on the hamstrings and they had to be traversed twice.
This didn't seem to bother Angus though as he a
lso recorded the fastest run time 0.40.42 which was even quicker than the team runners.

First senior male :           Angus Peden           2.05.00
First senior Female :      Gemma Scott           2.25.56
First Veteran male :       Terry Gallacher       2.16.02
First Veteran Female :   Yvonne Pollard         3.05.44
First Team :                      Scott Mackenzie    2.12.02

Thanks to all marshals, Kate and all the wick tri club members who got up early to set up the scaffold and Marquee and to Plum and Brian for putting out bike race signs.
This turned out to be an enjoyable and succesful day that I for one am looking forward to repeating.

A special mention has to go to our oldest competeter 67 year old Jane Askey who not only completed the event in 3.29.32 but also stayed for curry and beer, helped dismantle the marquee before cycling off in the sunset to pitch her tent for the night.

  1. Well done Kate and the team....sounds like a great event. Definately in the calendar for next year.....especially if the swim is gonna be short again!! ;P

  2. Thanks for a great weekend and race, especially the beers and for Kait ordering and delivering an excellent Lamb Madras! A day that started with an Olympic distance triathlon, and ended on the dancefloor of Waterfront nightclub trying to avoid an large inflatable male appendage! Those local girls don't mess about.

I'll definitely be up for something along similar lines next year, but more likely as a team wih a friend from Orkney doing the bike. Gutted I can't make the sprint event but I hope it goes as well as the big race.

    Cheers,
    Angus
